The start of the 2025 academic year will bring fresh momentum to TSM – Toulouse School of Management, with the arrival of its new dean, Julien Grobert. With extensive experience in higher education and the professional world, he succeeds Hervé Penan, whose ongoing commitment has significantly shaped the school.
Looking Back: A Leadership Marked by TSM’s Transformation
Since 2001, Hervé Penan has overseen TSM’s development with a clear vision: to establish the institution as a school of management excellence, grounded in research, pedagogical innovation, and international openness.
His two terms were notably marked by:
- The creation of the Doctoral School in Management Sciences in 2006, now known as TSM Doctoral Programme.
- The structuring of research, with the founding in 2009 of the Research Centre in Management (CRM), currently called TSM-Research.
- The change in visual identity and name of the institution in 2017, from IAE Toulouse to Toulouse School of Management, affirming a strong internationalisation ambition.
These key milestones have contributed to positioning TSM as a major player among management schools nationally and internationally, recognised for the quality of its programmes and research.
The achievement of EQUIS accreditation in 2023 further confirmed its academic standing on the global stage.
The year 2025 marks the end of Hervé Penan’s mandate and coincides with a symbolic moment: TSM’s 70th anniversary, celebrating a rich history and paving the way for new ambitions.
Julien Grobert, New Dean of TSM
Officially appointed on 25 June by the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research, Julien Grobert takes on the role of dean of Toulouse School of Management.
A senior lecturer in marketing, responsible for corporate relations and academic coordinator of several work-study programmes, Julien Grobert specialises in sensory marketing, brand communication, and consumer behaviour.
His research has been published in international academic journals such as Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Décisions Marketing, and Creativity and Innovation Management. He regularly appears in the media and collaborates with academic institutions and companies, including HEC Montréal and Capgemini.
In his initial statements, he outlined an ambitious direction for the school:
My vision includes safeguarding resources dedicated to research, renewing the curriculum offer, diversifying funding sources, and providing increased support to students and student associations. By 2030, I want TSM to be a public institution of excellence, rooted regionally, nationally, and internationally, recognised for the quality of its research and programmes.
The arrival of the new dean continues the transformation TSM has been undertaking for several years. By emphasising academic excellence, stronger ties with the professional world, and international openness, Julien Grobert expresses the school’s strategic vision for the coming decade through this new dynamic.
TSM warmly congratulates and welcomes its new dean once again!
